Step 10 / 13

Check Your System After Installation

Make sure everything still works after Linux is installed.

You will test your system again, this time after installation. Some things can behave differently compared to the USB test. This step confirms that your system is ready for normal use.

Step 1 - Log in

After restart:

  • Select your user
  • Enter your password

You should reach the desktop.

Step 2 - Check the desktop

Make sure:

  • The screen looks correct
  • Resolution is normal
  • No visual glitches

Step 3 - Check internet

  • Connect to Wi-Fi
  • Open a browser
  • Load a website

Step 4 - Check sound

  • Play a video
  • Confirm audio works

Step 5 - Check input devices

  • Keyboard works
  • Touchpad works
  • Mouse works (if using one)

Step 6 - Check system responsiveness

  • Open applications
  • Move windows
  • Use menus

Does it feel usable?

Step 7 - Restart once more

Restart the computer again.

This confirms the system boots correctly without the USB.

Important

If something worked before but now does not:

Do not ignore it.

This usually means:

  • A driver issue
  • A configuration issue

Graphics driver decision

If everything works well, you do not need to install a graphics driver.

If you have:

  • Display issues (for example: screen flickering, wrong resolution, black screen after login)
  • Performance problems (for example: slow animations, lag when opening applications, poor gaming performance)
  • Specific needs (for example: gaming that requires higher performance, AI or machine learning workloads, CUDA support for NVIDIA GPUs, or other tasks that depend on specialized graphics features)

You may need one.

What happens next

You will decide whether you need a graphics driver.
